SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The IUP women's lacrosse team fell to Slippery Rock 18-10 Saturday afternoon, as they struggled to make defensive stops.
IUP is now 3-7 overall and 1-2 in conference action while Slippery Rock improved to 8-1 on the season and 3-0 in the PSAC. Both IUP and Slippery Rock recorded the same number of shots and ground balls, however, Slippery Rock managed to make 10 saves compared to IUP's two.
Slippery Rock scored the first four goals of the game before IUP netted their first at 4:03 from Brenna Whiteside. Whiteside added the next goal two minutes later and was assisted by Julia Steere. Alexi Crosby's goal at 2:20 put IUP within one, 4-3, and was assisted by Kathryn Burke. With under two minutes on the clock, Slippery Rock added a goal, Whiteside added her third, and Slippery Rock added two more to extend their lead to 7-4.
Whiteside netted her fourth goal at 11:27 in the second quarter, with another assist from Steere. Emme Mass scored at the 3:05 minute mark and was assisted by Burke just before Slippery Rock netted four more. IUP headed into the half down by six, 12-6.
Slippery Rock opened the third quarter with two goals and Alexi Crosby netted her first goal of the game at 7:28. Whiteside added her final goal at 1:51 and was assisted by Crosby. Slippery Rock added one more goal to end the quarter.
In the fourth, Slippery Rock began the scoring with two goals. Burke then scored two goals within a minute around the six-minute mark to put IUP in double digits. Slippery Rock added one more goal to finish the game.
