EDINBORO, Pa. -- The IUP softball team secured two run-rule victories over Edinboro Saturday afternoon.
With today's results, IUP is now 21-9Â overall and 12-4Â in conference action.Â
Game oneÂ
On the mound was Kendall Young who pitched all 6.0 innings. She allowed just two hits and one run and posted four strikeouts. IUP totaled four stolen bases and nine RBI. Madison Pikula led the way at the plate, she went 3-for-3 with one run and had four RBI. Â
Edinboro's lone run came in the bottom of the first inning from a home run to left field. Â
IUP responded in the second inning, taking a 2-1 lead. The first three batters each drew walks. With two outs, Pikula singled to third base driving in both Brianna Pusateri and Jaycee Haidze. Â
IUP added two more runs in the fourth. Pusateri reached on a walk and advanced on an error. Emily Miller reached on an error and stole second. Tess Smiley's RBI single scored Pusateri, and Miller later crossed home on a sacrifice fly by Pikula to make it 4-1.
A six-run sixth inning propelled IUP to a 10-1 advantage. Emily Miller started the rally with a double and later scored on Pikula's single up the middle. Maddie Griffin drew a walk and Pikula advanced to third. Jordan Sylvia knocked in two more runs with a single to center. Reagan Rand drew a walk and Paige Truax's single to second loaded the bases. Delaney Patella capped the inning with a three-RBI double to left center, stretching the lead to 10-1.
Edinboro was held scoreless in the sixth, ending the game early due to the run rule.
Game twoÂ
The Fighting Scots scored their single run in the bottom of the first.Â
In the second inning, Rand drew a walk, advanced on a wild pitch, and scored on Haidze's double to left center. Pusateri singled up the middle, advancing Haidze to third. Pusateri stole second and Haidze scored on the throw. Smiley followed with a walk, and back-to-back singles by Madison Pikula and Maddie Griffin brought in two more runs. Jordan Sylvia capped the inning with a groundout to first that plated Pikula, giving IUP a 5-1 lead.
Truax scored IUP's sixth run in the top of the third. She singled up and the middle and advanced to third on Rand's double. Haidze's hit to centerfield drove in Truax.Â
IUP used a huge eight-run fifth inning to cap the game due to the run rule after Edinboro was unable to respond in the bottom. A single and two walks loaded the bases. With two outs, IUP hit two singles that drove in three runs. Sylvia's double to left center scored Smiley, Pikula, and Griffin. Patella capped the scoring for the Hawks with a two-run homer to left field, 14-1.
