GREENSBURG, Pa. – The IUP softball team dropped Tuesday's doubleheader at Seton Hill.
IUP is now 22-12 overall and 13-7 in conference action.
Game one
IUP got on the board first in the top of the second inning.
Reagan Rand and
Jaycee Haidze both drew walks to begin the inning.
Ruby Singleton followed with a single to right field, advancing to second on an error, which allowed Rand to come around and score.
Maddie Griffin then singled to center and moved up on a throwing error, allowing Haidze and Singleton to cross the plate.
In the third, two walks and a fielding error loaded the bases for the Crimson Hawks .
Jess Cekada's groundout to first brought home
Delaney Patella. In the fifth inning, Rand extended IUP's lead with a solo home run, putting the Hawks up 5-3.
Seton Hill's first four runs were scored from home runs. The Griffins surged in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring nine runs on nine hits and one error.
Game two
Madison Pikula led off the game with a single down the right field line and later scored on
Jordan Sylvia's sacrifice bunt. Griffin reached on a fielding error and scored on
Paige Truax's infield single, giving IUP an early 2-0 edge.
The Griffins continued their momentum from game one in the bottom of the first inning. They began with two home runs and tacked on six more runs from four walks and two hits.
Singleton homered to left in the second to trim the deficit to 8-3. In the third, Rand drew a walk and came around to score on Haidze's two-run homer to right-center, making it 9-5.
Seton Hill kept the momentum going, scoring four more in the bottom of the third on three hits to stretch their lead to 13-5.
IUP rallied in the fourth to get back within three. Pikula singled, stole second, and reached third on a throwing error. Sylvia walked, and Rand reached on a fielding error that brought Pikula home. The bases became loaded from Truax's single to second base. Haidze reached on a fielder's choice but a throwing error allowed all three runners to score. A wild pitch brought Haidze to third and scored Truax. Singleton then delivered an RBI single, plating pinch runner
Jess Cekada.
The teams each added a run onto the board with Pikula scoring on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth. The game was halted in the bottom of the fifth.
