WHEELING, W.Va. -- The IUP baseball team earned a nonconference road win over Wheeling, 8-4, Wednesday afternoon.
Wheeling was the first to get on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a homer to left field.
In the top of the sixth,
Cayden Bender had his first career grand slam to put the Hawks ahead 5-1.
Cameron Copple began the inning with a single to right field and advanced to second on a fly out.
Mike Huber drew a walk and
Elijah Dunn was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With a full count, Bender hit his first career home run to right field for four RBIs. IUP drew two more walks, and a Copple single to center field drove in
Camden Rhude to put the Hawks ahead 6-1.
Wheeling added another run in the bottom of the sixth and two more in the bottom of the eighth inning. IUP added the final run in the top of the ninth.
Branden Kanick singled to left field and came around on
Mike Huber's double to right center.

IUP returns to action on Friday, April 25, at 12:00 p.m. for a doubleheader against Pitt-Johnstown. IUP will be recognizing the 2025 senior class after the completion of game one.
