IUP lacrosse secures dominant win over Edinboro

EDINBORO, Pa. – IUP women's lacrosse picked up a commanding 20-7 victory over Edinboro Saturday afternoon after they scored at least four goals per quarter. 
 
IUP is now 4-8 overall and 2-3 in conference action. The Hawks controlled the game with 32 ground balls and 43 shots on goal, while Edinboro managed just 10 shots.
 
Julia Steere led the team with seven points, including five goals and two assists. She had four ground balls and caused five turnovers. Both Lauren Riggs and Kathryn Burke scored three goals and had one caused turnover. IUP's 20 goals were scored by 10 different players. 
 
Steere scored IUP's first goal at 12:58 and was assisted by Burke. After getting the draw possession, Edinboro quickly netted their first. Around the nine-minute mark, IUP scored three consecutive goals to get ahead 4-1. Edinboro scored after another draw control, a minute before Lauren Riggs netted one at 5:31. The teams each added a goal with Steere adding her second with 13 seconds on the clock. 
 
After three shot attempts in the second quarter, Maggie Boyle found the net at 12:30. Steere and Angela Xenakis added goals, pushing their lead to 9-3. Each team added two more goals to head into the halftime with IUP in the lead 11-5. 
 
In the third quarter, Devon Nee won the draw control, and Burke was able to net one at 14:44. Burke scored again at 11:12, her second of the day. A turnover from Edinboro and a ground ball pickup from Emme Mass set up Steere for her fourth goal of the day. The Fighting Scots netted their sixth goal with 4:47 on the clock. Xenakis and Averie Moul added the final two goals of the quarter for the Hawks.
 
Riggs won the draw control which led to Burke scoring a quick goal at 14:26 in the fourth quarter. Edinboro's last goal came around the 10-minute mark while IUP added three goals to finish out the game.
