JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The IUP baseball team swept the series against Lock Haven, 4-0, after two more wins today at the Point Stadium in Johnstown.
With these two wins, IUP is now 11-19 overall and 7-5 in conference action.
Game one
On the mound for the Hawks today was
Jake Black. He gave up just three hits, no runs, and posted five strikeouts.
IUP's two runs were scored in the bottom of the fifth.
Teague Hoover reached on by an error from second base but was out at second after
Au'sean Owens reached on a fielder's choice. Owens stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball.
Ricardo Aponte drew a walk and stole second.
Mitchell Grosch's double to centerfield drove in both Owens and Aponte to put IUP on the board.
Game two
Lock Haven's two runs were scored in the top of the third off of four hits.
In the bottom of the fourth, IUP made a comeback scoring three runs off of three hits.
Elijah Dunn singled to first and then stole both second and third base. With two outs,
Robert Carfagno drew a walk and stole second to put two runners in scoring position. Hoover's double to left center drove in both runners to tie the score, 2-2. Owens's double down the right field line drove in Hoover to put IUP ahead by one, 3-2.
Bryce Devan came in for
Nathan Mankoski on the mound in the top of the third. Devan gave up two hits and posted seven strikeouts.
