Smith's Brace Leads Women's Soccer Over Lake Erie

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – Three first-half goals, including a brace from Elle Smith, kept the IUP women's soccer team's streak of beginning the year unbeaten to three games as the Crimson Hawks defeated the Lake Erie College Storm 3-1.

All three of the Crimson Hawks' goals came within ten minutes of each other as the team provided an onslaught from the 29th minute to the 38th minute. Emily Lattea's goal in the 34th minute was sandwiched between two Smith goals, the first coming in the 29th minute and the second coming in the 39th minute.

The Storm also added their goal in that time frame. Isabella Carvalho scored in the 37th minute, the first goal that IUP has given up this season. The Hawks outshot the Storm 19 to 7 and eight to three, respectively, with shots on goal.

The keeper game was split into two halves, with Sarah Gatz taking the net in the first half and Serayah Leech in the second. Gatz faced three shots, making two saves, and Leech did not face a shot. Morgan Vanmeter played the full 90 in net for Lake Erie, making five saves on eight shots.

The Crimson Hawks will travel to Greensburg on Saturday to compete in their first conference game against Seton Hill. Kickoff will be at noon.
