INDIANA, Pa. – The Indiana University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team stayed perfect in PSAC play with a commanding 6-0 victory over Pitt-Johnstown on Wednesday evening at South Campus Field.
Four different players scored for the Crimson Hawks, led by two goals each from Elle Smith and Emily Lattea. Forward Taylor Serrano added a goal and an assist, and senior midfielder Jordina Rovira Sole chipped in with her first assist of the season.
IUP outshot Pitt-Johnstown 12-6, including a 9-2 edge in shots on goal, and controlled the match from start to finish.
First half
IUP broke through in the 22nd minute when Smith calmly finished inside the box for the opening goal.
The Crimson Hawks doubled their lead in the 32nd minute when Serrano converted a chance set up by Caruso. Just seconds later, Caruso scored one of her own to make it 3-0.
IUP capped a dominant first half in the 37th minute when Lattea scored off a pass from Rovira Sole, sending the Crimson Hawks into halftime up 4-0.
Second half
The Crimson Hawks wasted no time extending their lead. Smith scored again in the 52nd minute, assisted by Serrano, for her second goal of the game.
Lattea added the finishing touch in the 89th minute with her second goal, sealing the 6-0 victory.
On the other end, the Crimson Hawks' defense limited Pitt-Johnstown to two shots on goal, both saved easily. IUP split time in goal, with little action required.
