Volleyball Sweeps Cal (Pa.) for 11th Straight Victory

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The IUP women's volleyball team continued its winning ways Friday night, sweeping California (Pa.) in three sets to extend its winning streak to 11 matches.

The Crimson Hawks (12-3, 6-0 PSAC) took down the Vulcans by scores of 25-18, 25-20 and 25-23, remaining unbeaten in conference play.

IUP controlled the opening set behind its most efficient offensive performance of the night. The Crimson Hawks recorded 21 kills while hitting .327, pulling away for the seven-point victory and an early 1-0 advantage.

The momentum carried into the second set as IUP took a 25-20 victory before completing the sweep with a tightly contested 25-23 win in the third.

Jessica Neiman led the IUP attack with 14 kills while hitting .462 for the match. Delaney Concannon followed with 13 kills and completed a double-double with a team-high 14 digs.

Kyra Schmidt and Sammy Stephens added seven kills apiece as the Crimson Hawks finished with 50 kills and a .235 hitting percentage.

IUP received contributions from both setters, with Maddie Zechman handing out 21 assists and adding 10 digs for a double-double. Ellie Rauch chipped in 15 assists.

Brooke Kessler helped the Crimson Hawks from the service line with three aces as IUP finished with six as a team.

Defensively, IUP limited California to 36 kills and a .158 hitting percentage. The Crimson Hawks also held a 60-53 advantage in digs.

The victory continued an impressive run for IUP after opening the season 1-3. The Crimson Hawks have won 11 consecutive matches and remain unbeaten in PSAC play.
