TIFFIN, Ohio – Sophomore Zaiden Dennis turned in the best opening-day standing of his IUP career Monday, leading the Crimson Hawks through the first two rounds of the Kyle Ryman Memorial at Mohawk Golf and Country Club.
IUP sits alone in sixth place after rounds of 301 and 303 for a two-round total of 604 (+28). Findlay leads the field at 580 (+4), while Pitt-Johnstown is second at 584 (+8) and host Tiffin sits third at 585 (+9).
Dennis was the story of the opening day for the Crimson Hawks, firing rounds of 73 and 72 to sit tied for sixth individually at 145 (+1). Dennis carded seven birdies across his 36 holes, including an even-par second round.
Three members of IUP's lineup sit tied for 34th at 153 (+9). Senior Jon Vinge opened the tournament with an even-par 72 before an 81 in the second round. Junior Trevor Todd responded from an opening-round 80 with a one-over 73 in round two, while Eli Bintrim posted rounds of 76 and 77.
Competing as an individual, Ben De Castro sits tied for 18th after rounds of 75 and 74 for a 149 (+5).
Freshman Davis DiGregory made his collegiate debut Monday and settled in quickly. Competing as an individual, DiGregory opened with a 77 before improving by three strokes with a two-over 74 in the second round. He enters Tuesday tied for 31st at 151 (+7).
