INDIANA, Pa. — The fifth-ranked Indiana University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team continued its strong conference play Saturday, defeating Clarion University 81-65 at the Kovalchick Complex.
IUP controlled the game from the opening tip, using a fast start to build a double-digit lead in the first quarter. The Crimson Hawks outscored Clarion 25-14 in the opening frame and extended the margin to 46-25 by halftime after holding the Golden Eagles to just 11 second-quarter points.
The Crimson Hawks maintained their momentum in the third quarter, stretching the lead to more than 20 points behind efficient shooting and a steady defensive effort. Clarion made a push in the fourth, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
Belle Bosch led all scorers with 18 points, shooting efficiently from the field to pace a balanced IUP attack. Nyshae' Weaver added 14 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to record a double-double, while Teresa Maggio also finished with 14 points. Marin Miller chipped in 13 points and dished out four assists as IUP placed four players in double figures.
IUP shot 45.1 percent from the floor and controlled the glass throughout much of the contest. The Crimson Hawks' defensive pressure limited Clarion's offensive rhythm for three quarters, allowing them to dictate tempo.
With the win, IUP improved to 23-1 overall and strengthened its position in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference standings. Clarion fell to 12-12 on the season.
The Crimson Hawks will look to carry the momentum into their next PSAC matchup as they continue their push toward the postseason.
