No. 5 IUP Falls at Cal, 74-69

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – No. 5 Indiana (Pa.) dropped a 74-69 decision at California (Pa.) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West matchup Wednesday night.

The Crimson Hawks (23-2, 16-2 PSAC) led after the opening quarter before the Vulcans used a strong second period to take control. California extended its advantage in the third quarter and held off a late IUP rally down the stretch.

Nyshae' Weaver led IUP with 17 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double while adding five assists. Teresa Maggio scored 16 points and Belle Bosch finished with 12 points and six rebounds. Ellie Wilkerson added 11 points for the Crimson Hawks.

IUP shot 45 percent from the field (27 of 60) but struggled from 3-point range, connecting on just 2 of 16 attempts. The Crimson Hawks converted 13 of 14 free throws and matched California on the glass with 34 rebounds.

California was led by Hope Hawkins with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Kennedy Bankett added 22 points, while Jalasia Hull scored 12 points and Kimaya Williams chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds.

The loss marked just the second defeat of the season for the Crimson Hawks.
