MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The Indiana (Pa.) baseball team broke out offensively Saturday afternoon, scoring 13 runs on 14 hits in a victory over Glenville State at Kendrick Family Ballpark.. The Crimson Hawks used contributions throughout the lineup as 22 different players saw action and eight recorded hits. Catcher Ricardo Aponte led the offensive surge with three hits, finishing a double shy of the cycle with a home run, triple and single. Aponte also added two stolen bases in a standout all-around performance.
David Kessler also provided power at the plate with a home run as IUP totaled six extra-base hits against Pioneer pitching.
Cameron Copple earned his first win of the season on the mound, pitching six strong innings. The right-hander allowed just three hits and two earned runs while keeping Glenville State's offense in check.
Mark Luke, Dylan Schumacher and Aidan Barrow-Somers combined to cover the final three innings in relief. The Crimson Hawks' pitching staff struck out nine batters and limited Glenville State to five hits overall.
IUP's balanced offensive attack and steady pitching allowed the Crimson Hawks to control the game throughout as they continued early-season play.
The Crimson Hawks return to action Sunday against PSAC East opponent Bloomsburg. First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. in Morgantown.
