IUP softball splits doubleheader with Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — Indiana (Pa.) bounced back from a Game 1 loss to earn a split with Millersville in a Wednesday doubleheader, falling 9-4 in the opener before responding with a 9-0 shutout victory in the nightcap.

The Crimson Hawks grabbed an early lead in the first game when Jaycee Haidze blasted a two-run home run in the second inning to put IUP ahead 2-0.

Millersville answered in the third inning with a two-run homer to tie the game before taking the lead in the fourth. The Marauders broke the contest open with a five-run fifth inning to build a comfortable advantage.

IUP attempted a late rally as Madison Pikula delivered an RBI double in the fifth inning and the Crimson Hawks added another run in the seventh, but Millersville held on for the 9-4 win.

The Crimson Hawks responded in dominant fashion in Game 2.

IUP's offense broke through early and continued to add runs throughout the game, while the pitching staff shut down the Marauders to secure a 9-0 shutout victory.

The win allowed the Crimson Hawks to salvage a split in the twinbill after dropping the opener.
