Box Score 1 SALEM, Va. – The IUP Crimson Hawks softball recorded two shutouts Saturday, outscoring opponents 12-0 in a pair of wins at the Salem tournament.
The Crimson Hawks opened the day with a 9-0 victory over Wheeling Cardinals before defeating West Virginia State Yellow Jackets 3-0 in the second game.
IUP used a five-run third inning to break open game one against Wheeling. Reagan Rand started the scoring with a solo home run, while an error and a passed ball later in the inning allowed additional runs to cross the plate.
The Crimson Hawks added to their lead in the fourth when Delaney Patella hit her team-leading fourth home run of the season, a solo shot that pushed the advantage to 6-0. Later in the game, Jaycee Haidze delivered a three-run homer, the team's third long ball of the contest, to trigger the run rule in the 9-0 win.
Taylor Bumgardner earned the victory in the circle, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing three hits and striking out six.
In game two, IUP defeated West Virginia State 3-0 behind another strong pitching performance. Ruby Singleton provided the key offense with a solo home run in the third inning. The Crimson Hawks also added two doubles in the contest.
Kendall Young went the distance in the circle, pitching six shutout innings to secure the win.
IUP will return to action Sunday in Salem with games against Winston-Salem State Rams and West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats.
