ERIE, Pa. — The IUP Crimson Hawks opened the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional with an 89-83 victory over Fairmont State on Saturday at the Highmark Events Center.
IUP used a strong second half to pull away after the teams were tied 37-37 at halftime, outscoring the Fighting Falcons 52-46 in the final 20 minutes to secure the postseason win.
Dallis Dillard led the Crimson Hawks with 29 points, adding five rebounds, three assists and six steals while shooting 11 of 16 from the field. Christian Moore added 16 points, while Kymani Merraro contributed 14 points off the bench.
Damir Brooks finished with 11 points, four rebounds and three steals, and Ian Herring added eight points and five rebounds for IUP.
The Crimson Hawks shot 48.4% from the field (31 of 64) and converted 19 of 23 free throws. IUP also forced turnovers that led to 24 points and held a 38-28 advantage in points in the paint.
Drey Carter led Fairmont State with 24 points, while Miguel Martinez added 16 for the Fighting Falcons.
With the win, IUP improved to 23-7 and advanced in the NCAA Atlantic Regional tournament.
