Moore scores 30 as IUP defeats Virginia Union 66-62 in overtime

ERIE, Pa.Christian Moore scored 30 points and Indiana (Pa.) held off Virginia Union 66-62 in overtime Sunday at the Highmark Events Center.

Moore powered the Crimson Hawks with a strong perimeter performance, hitting 7 of 12 from 3-point range and finishing 8 of 14 from the field while playing all 45 minutes. He added six rebounds and five assists as IUP improved to 24-7 on the season.

IUP led 30-25 at halftime after knocking down eight 3-pointers in the opening period. The Crimson Hawks maintained the advantage through much of the second half before Virginia Union rallied to tie the game at 56-56 and force overtime.

In the extra period, IUP controlled the final minutes from the free-throw line and made key defensive stops to secure the four-point victory.

Kymani Merraro added 15 points for the Crimson Hawks, making three 3-pointers. Dallis Dillard finished with 12 points and four assists, while Ian Herring grabbed eight rebounds and recorded three steals.

IUP finished with 11 made 3-pointers and shot 15 of 18 from the free-throw line while totaling 14 assists.

Virginia Union (25-6) was led by Bobby Gardner with 19 points. Noah Richardson-Keyes and Malachi Dark each scored 13 points, and Nehemiah Johnson added nine points and seven rebounds.

Virginia Union held a 43-40 rebounding edge and scored 28 points in the paint but struggled from beyond the arc, going 3 for 10 from 3-point range.

Moore led the early surge for IUP, hitting five first-half 3-pointers as the Crimson Hawks built their halftime lead before holding on in overtime to secure the win.
