Miller’s late 3 lifts IUP past Winston-Salem State 65-64 in NCAA regional

INDIANA, Pa. — Marin Miller drilled a go-ahead 3-pointer with six seconds remaining to lift Indiana University of Pennsylvania to a 65-64 victory over Winston-Salem State on Monday night in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional at the Kovalchick Convention & Athletic Complex.

Miller's shot capped a late comeback for the Crimson Hawks, who trailed in the final minute before the senior guard connected from beyond the arc to give IUP the lead for good.

Ellie Wilkerson led the Crimson Hawks with 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Teresa Maggio added 15 points, while Nyshae Weaver finished with 13 points and seven rebounds. Miller finished with 10 points, including the decisive basket.

The game featured numerous momentum swings, with 13 lead changes and 10 ties throughout the contest.

Winston-Salem State held a 40-37 lead at halftime and pushed its advantage to double digits earlier in the game before IUP gradually worked its way back in the second half.

The Crimson Hawks shot 50 percent from the field (26 of 52) and held a 36-32 rebounding advantage. IUP also outscored the Rams 42-30 in the paint.

Ah'Kiyah Pye led Winston-Salem State with 16 points and eight rebounds. Makayla Waleed added 14 points off the bench, and Alana Biosse finished with 11 for the Rams.

IUP's late surge was capped by Miller's clutch 3-pointer in the closing seconds, sending the Crimson Hawks into the next round of the NCAA Atlantic Regional.

IUP's Nyshae Weaver was named Tournament Most Valuable Player, while Teresa Maggio was also named to the All-Tournament Team. Winston Salem's Maia Charles, as well as Seton Hill's Mia Kalich and Gannon's Kate Ratliff rounded out the All-Atlantic Regional Tournament Team.
