INDIANA, Pa. – IUP Crimson Hawks baseball closed out its weekend in dominant fashion, sweeping Gannon Golden Knights baseball in a doubleheader and securing a 3-1 series win. The Crimson Hawks outscored Gannon 26-5 on the day, highlighted by a 7-2 win in game one and a 19-3 rout in the finale.
In the opener, Cameron Copple delivered a complete-game performance, allowing just two runs on two hits over seven innings while striking out three. At the plate, Devon Boyles provided the big swing, launching a grand slam to drive in four runs. Boyles finished the day going 5-for-6 across the two games from the leadoff spot.
IUP totaled eight hits in game one and drew seven walks, with Erik Rhodes leading the way with three free passes.
The Crimson Hawks' offense exploded in game two, plating runs in every inning of the weather-shortened six-inning contest. IUP racked up 19 runs on 22 hits, with eight players recording multiple hits. Cayden Bender led the charge with a perfect 4-for-4 performance and six RBIs.
On the mound, Emilio Rodriguez earned his first win of the season, tossing 2.1 innings of scoreless relief while allowing just one hit.
With the series win, IUP takes three of four games from Gannon and builds momentum heading into its next matchup.
The Crimson Hawks return to action Tuesday with a road trip to face Fairmont State Falcons baseball. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
