INDIANA, Pa. — Indiana (Pa.) used a dominant start and balanced scoring to defeat Gannon 8-2 in PSAC women's lacrosse action Wednesday.
The Crimson Hawks controlled the game early, building a commanding lead in the first half and never looking back. IUP outshot Gannon 31-14, including a 21-7 advantage in shots on goal.
Alexi Crosby led the offense with three goals on four shots. Maggie Boyle added two goals while putting seven of her eight shots on goal, and Macenzie Haragos finished with two goals and an assist.
Leah Moyer contributed a goal on five shots, while Mila Prusak added an assist to round out the scoring.
IUP's defense played a key role in the win, forcing 26 turnovers and holding Gannon to just five shots on goal. Julia Steere recorded two ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Mia Courtalis added three ground balls.
The Crimson Hawks also controlled possession with a 23-15 edge in ground balls and held a slight advantage in draw controls.
Gannon was led by Charlie Hunter and Megan Lang, who each scored a goal.
IUP's defense held Gannon scoreless in the first and fourth quarters, setting the tone early and closing the door late.
With the win, the Crimson Hawks used a fast start and strong defensive pressure to secure the conference victory.
