PITTSBURGH – It was a distance-focused day for IUP track and field as the Crimson Hawks opened their outdoor season Friday at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.

A select group competed for IUP, highlighted by a top-10 finish in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase by Stella Kuntz, who posted an automatic PSAC qualifying time of 11:47.01.

Kuntz cleared the qualifying standard by 15 seconds and is the lone PSAC qualifier for IUP on the opening day of the outdoor season.

The Crimson Hawks return to Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday for the second day of competition.
