FAIRMONT, W. Va. — Indiana (Pa.) softball showed offensive firepower but came up short in both games of Wednesday's doubleheader against Fairmont State University, falling 5-1 and 11-10 in eight innings.
In the opener, Taylor Bumgardner went the distance in the circle, striking out five over seven innings. Senior Reagan Rand delivered IUP's run-scoring hit with a fifth-inning double that plated Maddie Griffin, while Madison Pikula paced the lineup with two hits.
Game two saw the Crimson Hawks explode for six runs in the first inning, forcing a pitching change just six batters into the contest. IUP reclaimed the lead with a three-run fifth inning after Fairmont State surged ahead midway through the game.
Briana Pusateri highlighted the offensive effort with her first multi-hit game of the season, finishing 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs. Ruby Singleton added two hits and a walk, and the Hawks totaled 10 runs in the extra-inning battle.
The Crimson Hawks return to action March 6 at Shippensburg University, followed by matchups March 7 against Shepherd University and Frostburg State University.
