INDIANA, Pa. — The No. 32 IUP women's tennis team opened its "Crimson Fire" week Saturday with a statement 7-0 victory over No. 49 Wilmington at the Maple Street Courts.
Facing a stretch of three nationally ranked opponents, the Crimson Hawks asserted control early and never allowed the Wildcats to settle into the match.
IUP's only setback came at No. 1 doubles, where Wilmington's Ines Olivera and Molly Carlberg defeated Annemiek Sterk and Maria Moskaltsova 6-4. The Crimson Hawks responded by sweeping the remaining doubles and singles matches to secure the shutout.
In singles play, Asel Calbay delivered one of the top performances of the day, defeating Siana MacDonald — the No. 63-ranked player in Division II — by a 6-1, 6-2 score.
Junior Hannah Beitat, coming off her 100th career win, continued her strong play with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Gloria Barcaro at No. 6 singles.
The closest singles match came at No. 3, where Moskaltsova topped Carlberg 6-2, 6-2.
With the win, IUP builds momentum heading into the remainder of its challenging stretch. The Crimson Hawks will host No. 20 Charleston on Sunday at Maple Street. The Golden Eagles feature two doubles teams ranked in the ITA top 20.
Sunday's match will also include a pre-match ceremony honoring the 2025-26 IUP women's basketball team for its run to the national championship game. The ceremony is scheduled for 11:45 a.m., with first serve set for noon.
