INDIANA, Pa. — The IUP women's tennis team continued its dominance in the Atlantic Region with a 5-2 victory over No. 20 Charleston on Sunday at the Maple Street Courts.
With the win, the Crimson Hawks secured their second victory over a nationally ranked opponent, with another key matchup ahead Wednesday against PSAC West foe Slippery Rock.
After dropping the doubles point, IUP responded by winning five of six singles matches to claim the victory. Hannah Beitat and Asel Calbay provided the lone doubles win for the Crimson Hawks with a 6-2 decision. Annemiek Sterk and Maria Miskaltsova fell 6-4 to Charleston's No. 12-ranked doubles pair.
Singles play featured a marathon match at No. 2, where freshman Charliz Tabili defeated Michelle Connor 6-3, 7-6 (10-8). Tabili battled through cramps in the tiebreak and rallied to win the final three points to secure the victory.
Maria Miskaltsova delivered a dominant performance, winning 6-0, 6-2 in under an hour. Beitat also impressed, taking her match 6-3, 7-5 after rallying from a 5-4 deficit in the second set.
