FROSTBURG, Md. — A six-run first inning propelled IUP to a 12-6 nonconference win over Frostburg State.
IUP scored five runs and forced a pitching change before the Bobcats recorded an out.
Five IUP players recorded multiple hits, led by shortstop David Kessler, who had four hits, including two doubles. Anthony Diodata continued his hot streak with two hits and an RBI while drawing a walk.
IUP outhit Frostburg State 17-11, with three Crimson Hawks recording extra-base hits. Michael Kramer hit his second home run of the season, a two-run shot in the eighth inning on the first pitch he saw.
Braydon May started for IUP, pitching 4 2/3 innings and allowing six hits. Four pitchers relieved May, including Gabe Johnson, who threw two innings and allowed one hit. IUP's relievers combined to limit Frostburg State to five hits.
IUP returns to PSAC play Friday at Pullman Park in Butler, Pa., against Clarion. First pitch of Game 1 is noon.
