BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — IUP women's tennis is headed back to the PSAC Championship match after the Crimson Hawks defeated Bloomsburg, the No. 2 seed from the East, 4-0 in the semifinals Friday.
IUP secured the doubles point with dominant performances from Annemiek Sterk and Maria Moskaltsova at No. 1 doubles, winning 6-0, and Charliz Tabili and Isabelle Oikawa Torres at No. 3 doubles, who won 6-1. Hannah Beitat and Asel Calbay were leading 4-1 at the time the doubles point was clinched.
In singles play, Lea von Kozierowski, Moskaltsova and Ifigeneia Kafka each earned straight-set victories to secure the match for the Crimson Hawks.
Von Kozierowski won 6-1, 6-0, Moskaltsova followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory, and Kafka sealed the win with a 6-1, 6-1 result.
At the time of the clinch, Calbay was leading 3-2 in the second set, while Tabili trailed 3-1 in the second after winning the opening set 6-4. Oikawa Torres was also close to victory, leading 5-1 in the second set after taking the first set 6-0.
IUP advances to face Slippery Rock in the PSAC Championship match for the fifth consecutive season. The title match will be played in Bloomsburg and is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
