EDINBORO, Pa. – IUP women's soccer played its second match in less than 48 hours Saturday, hitting the road to open PSAC West play against Edinboro. The two sides combined for 20 shots, with four shots on goal apiece, as the Fighting Scots scored in the first half and held on for a 1-0 victory.
IUP finished with 11 shots, two more than Edinboro, with three attempts coming off the foot of winger Melody Leiva. Zoe Ans-Bitchoka and Carolina Gutierrez also recorded multiple shots for the Crimson Hawks, while Leiva was the only IUP player to put multiple attempts on goal.
Junior goalkeeper Sarah Gatz made two saves on three shots on goal. Edinboro goalkeeper Brianna Garey stopped all four IUP shots on goal to preserve the clean sheet.
Jada Cole led the Fighting Scots with three shots, putting two on frame. She provided the game's lone goal in the first half to give Edinboro the advantage it would hold through the final whistle.
IUP continues PSAC West play Wednesday, Sept. 2, traveling to Seton Hill to take on the Griffins. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:20 p.m.
