NORMAN, Okla. – Four members of the IUP men's golf team were recognized for their achievements on the course and in the classroom as seniors Alex Swinnerton and Guillermo Salazar and sophomores Ben De Castro and Trevor Todd earned Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors.
To qualify for the award, student-athletes must compete in at least 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, maintain a stroke average of 78.0 or better in NCAA Division II and carry a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2.
IUP was one of just 22 NCAA Division II programs to have four or more student-athletes earn the distinction.
Swinnerton capped his Crimson Hawk career with another outstanding season, posting a team-best 72.77 scoring average after recording a 73.25 career average. He finished in the top five four times and the top 10 six times during the 2025-26 campaign while recording a season-low round of 65. A two-time All-Atlantic Region and All-PSAC selection, Swinnerton concluded his career with four tournament victories, 17 top-five finishes and 24 top-10 finishes, highlighted by a career-low round of 64 during the 2023-24 season.
Salazar also closed out an impressive IUP career after averaging 73.20 strokes per round this season and 74.42 for his career. He finished runner-up at the PSAC Championships after a playoff that concluded because of darkness. During the season, Salazar captured one tournament title, recorded two top-five finishes and five top-10 performances. He finished his career with two victories, 10 top-five finishes and 20 top-10 finishes.
De Castro enjoyed a breakout sophomore season, lowering his scoring average by more than one stroke from his freshman campaign. He averaged 75.41 strokes per round while recording one top-five finish and two top-10 finishes. Through two seasons, De Castro owns a 75.96 career scoring average with three top-10 finishes. His season-best round of 67 tied for the second-lowest score by a Crimson Hawk during the season.
Todd made one of the biggest improvements on the team, trimming more than three strokes from his freshman scoring average. After averaging 78.47 as a freshman, Todd lowered his average to 75.30 during the 2025-26 season. He recorded one top-10 finish, giving him two in his career, and matched De Castro with a season-low round of 67, tied for the second-lowest score by an IUP golfer this season.
The quartet also excelled in the classroom.
Swinnerton graduated with a 3.40 GPA while majoring in sport management. Salazar, a CSC Academic All-District selection, earned his accounting degree with a 3.87 GPA. De Castro, a marketing major, has compiled a 3.68 GPA, while Todd has recorded a 3.45 GPA as a finance major.
The recognition caps another successful season for the Crimson Hawks, who continued the program's tradition of excellence both competitively and academically while extending their streak of NCAA regional appearances to 29 consecutive seasons.
