INDIANA, Pa. – Kat Morgan scored twice, including a second-half equalizer, as IUP women's soccer battled Clarion to a 2-2 draw Saturday afternoon at South Campus Field.
The Crimson Hawks controlled much of the match offensively, holding a 14-3 advantage in shots and putting nine attempts on goal. IUP also generated all six corner kicks in the match.
Morgan opened the scoring in the ninth minute, finding the back of the net off an assist from Melody Leiva to give the Crimson Hawks an early 1-0 advantage.
Clarion answered less than six minutes later when Leah Deal scored in the 15th minute to even the match. The Golden Eagles took their first lead in the 30th minute on Sofia Barba's goal, sending IUP into halftime trailing 2-1.
IUP increased the pressure in the second half, outshooting Clarion 8-0 over the final 45 minutes.
The Crimson Hawks finally broke through in the 74th minute when Morgan scored her second goal of the afternoon, pulling IUP even at 2-2. The two-goal performance came on four shots, all of which were on goal.
Clarion goalkeeper Sage Sherk made seven saves as IUP consistently pressured the Golden Eagles' defense.
Leiva finished with three shots and an assist, while Ayla Cook and Charlotte De Keukelaere recorded two shots apiece. Zoe Ans-Bitchoka and Avery Clanton also put attempts on goal.
Junior goalkeeper Sarah Gatz played all 45 minutes for the Crimson Hawks, while Kiley Hassinger finished the second half. Clarion scored on both of its shots on goal.
The draw moves IUP to 1-2-3 overall and 1-2-2 in PSAC play, while Clarion moves to 3-1-2 overall and 2-1-2 in conference action.
