INDIANA, Pa. – Izzy Sawich picked the perfect time for the first goal of her collegiate career.
Sawich broke a scoreless tie in the 75th minute Wednesday, lifting IUP women's soccer to a 1-0 victory over PSAC West foe Seton Hill at Andy Kuzneski Field on the campus of Indiana Area High School.
The victory kept the Crimson Hawks unbeaten at home this season and avenged a 1-0 loss to the Griffins earlier this month in Greensburg.
Junior Melena Wray set up the eventual game-winner, finding Sawich for the decisive goal with 15 minutes remaining. The assist marked Wray's first point of the season.
IUP made the most of its opportunities despite Seton Hill holding the advantage in total shots. The Crimson Hawks finished with five attempts, putting four on goal, while the Griffins managed just two shots on frame.
It marked just the second time this season IUP was outshot in a match. The Crimson Hawks are 2-0 in those contests, earning victories over Gannon and Seton Hill.
Seton Hill goalkeeper Rhys Caplinger stopped three of the four shots she faced, while IUP junior Sarah Gatz turned away both attempts on goal to secure the clean sheet.
Scoring opportunities remained limited throughout the match, with the teams combining for just one corner kick. Seton Hill earned the game's lone corner in the final minute, providing the Griffins with one last opportunity to find an equalizer.
The IUP defense cleared the ensuing chance to preserve the one-goal advantage and secure the victory.
