LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- The Crimson Hawks (6-1) wasted little time taking control against Division I Lock Haven, with Kasey Rieger opening the scoring just 1:24 into the contest off an assist from Grace McGeehan.
IUP doubled its advantage less than eight minutes later when Hayven Mumma found the back of the cage at the 9:01 mark, giving the Crimson Hawks a 2-0 lead after the opening quarter.
Nina Stanich added to the advantage late in the second quarter, scoring at 27:59 to send IUP into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
Lock Haven responded after the break, with Maddie Friend scoring in the third quarter before Rylee Wassmer pulled the Bald Eagles within one in the fourth.
IUP held firm over the final minutes to preserve the one-goal advantage and secure a 3-2 road victory over the Division I Bald Eagles.
The Crimson Hawks finished with an 8-7 edge in shots and a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. Celeste Pagliaroli made two saves in the cage for IUP.
The victory marked a quick response for the Crimson Hawks following their first setback of the season against Frostburg State. IUP rallied from a three-goal deficit in that contest before falling in a shootout.
IUP has won six of its first seven games under first-year head coach Stephen Hamill.
