JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – After a darkness-shortened opening day, the IUP men's golf team returned Tuesday to complete the second round before closing out the Pitt-Johnstown Sunnehanna Collegiate at Sunnehanna Country Club.
IUP followed its opening-round 13-over 293 with its best team round of the tournament, carding a 3-over 283 in the second round. The Crimson Hawks closed the event with a 6-over 286 to finish tied with Adelphi for eighth at 22-over.
Rollins captured the team title at 12-under, posting an under-par team score in all three rounds. Rollins accounted for three of the four under-par team rounds in the tournament, with Lee's 5-under second round the only other team score below par.
Junior Trevor Todd paced the Crimson Hawks with a top-20 individual finish. Todd carded rounds of 70, 71 and 73 to finish tied for 19th at 3-over.
Senior Jon Vinge and freshman Sam Bishop finished tied for 34th at 6-over. Vinge posted rounds of 73, 70 and 73, while Bishop was remarkably consistent with three consecutive rounds of 72.
Zaiden Dennis finished tied for 51st at 9-over following rounds of 78, 70 and 71.
Freshman Eli Bintrim saved his best round of the tournament for Tuesday afternoon, firing an even-par 70 in the final round. Bintrim opened the round with a birdie on the par-4 first hole and finished with a bogey on the par-4 18th. He finished the tournament tied for 65th at 11-over.
Ben De Castro, competing as an individual, rounded out IUP's lineup at 12-over.
Much like Monday, the par-5 11th proved to be the Crimson Hawks' most favorable hole. Five of IUP's six golfers recorded birdies on No. 11 during the final round, with no Crimson Hawk carding worse than par.
IUP played the 11th hole at a combined 11-under for the tournament, highlighted by Bintrim recording the first eagle of his collegiate career during the second round.
Lee's Billy Boroughs captured the individual title at 9-under following rounds of 66, 67 and 68. He was one of six golfers to finish the tournament under par.
