Luke Getsy enters his second season on the IUP coaching staff as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2012 after four years as an assistant at Akron, West Virginia Wesleyan and the University of Pittsburgh.
Getsy started his coaching career in 2007 as a graduate assistant at Akron instructing the quarterbacks and wide receivers. Getsy also coached the quarterbacks as a graduate assistant at Pitt during the 2010 season.
In 2009 Getsy served as the offensive coordinator for West Virginia Wesleyan and ran an offense that was in the top three in the conference in quarterback efficiency, rushing, time of possession, turnovers, third down percentage and red zone efficiency.
Getsy started his playing career at Pitt where he started one game and played in five others from 2002-04.
In 2005 Getsy transferred to Akron and threw for 3,500 yards and 23 touchdowns, leading the Zips to their first-ever Mid America Conference championship and an appearance in the Motor City Bowl. Getsy threw for a Motor City Bowl record 455 yards and earned MVP honors.
Getsy currently ranks third on the all-time passing list at Akron with 6,117 yards in just two seasons with the Zips.
Getsy signed with the San Francisco 49ers as a free agent in April 2007 before starting his coaching career.
