Football sophomore Jay Watkins was named one of IUP's Athletes of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, November 8. Watkins came up with two huge defensive plays in IUP's 26-14 win over Gannon on Saturday. The cornerback broke up a Gannon pass on fourth down in Crimson Hawks' territory late in the third quarter and then picked off a pass at midfield with 2:09 left in the fourth, clinching the IUP victory.
 
IUP finished divisional play with a 6-1 record, sharing their 16th Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division title.
 
Watkins leads the conference and is one of the top ranked in Division II with 18 passes defended (2.00 per game) this season. He has 15 passes broken up and three interceptions, which is tied for the team lead and is eighth in the PSAC.
