Senior women's basketball guard Leslie Stapleton was named an IUP Athlete of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, Nov. 29. Stapleton helped the women to a 2-1 week, including a weekend sweep of Saint Augustine's and Johnson C. Smith during the IUP-Lodestar Classic. The guard averaged a team-high 14.0 points per game, also leading the Crimson Hawks with nine assists while shooting 41.0 percent from the field.
Stapleton scored a team-high 17 points in Sunday's 64-43 victory over Johnson C. Smith, and also had 16 points, four assists and four rebounds in IUP's 69-67 loss at Chowan on Tuesday.
She made 4-of-4 free throws against Johnson C. Smith, extending her streak to 12 straight made free throws to start the year. Stapleton leads the 5-2 Crimson Hawks with 16.7 points per game and is 19-of-53 (35.8 percent) from three-point range.
