Senior golfer Matt Cocorikis and freshman returner Qashah Carter were named IUP Athletes of the Week, announced by the IUP Sports Information Office Monday afternoon.
 
It's the third IUP weekly honor for Cocorikis, including the second straight. Carter earned his first IUP weekly award.
 
Cocorikis finished second place individually and led the Crimson Hawks to a first place team finish at the Mercyhurst Fall Invitational last week. He led the way for IUP with a consistent tournament, finishing the two-round event with a 2-over 146 after shooting a 73 each day. He also finished six strokes back of tournament medalist Adrian Larsen of Mercyhurst (4-under 140).
 
It's the second straight successful outing for Cocorikis, who won Clarion's Hal Hansen Invitational the week prior. He leads the Crimson Hawks with a 71.75 stroke average in two events this fall.
 
Carter was also named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Special Teams Athlete of the Week for his performance Saturday night. He returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown and finished with 163 kickoff return yards in IUP's 36-24 loss to rival California (Pa.). His touchdown came in the third quarter after a Cal score and gave the Crimson Hawks a 21-17 lead.
 
Carter's big return was the first kick return for a touchdown by an IUP player since 2012 and was the third longest return in program history. Carter leads the PSAC with a 35.1 average on 12 returns.
