Senior men's pole vaulter DJ Horton and freshman sprinter Dre Carr were named the IUP Athletes of the Week, announced Monday afternoon by the IUP Sports Information Office.

This is the second consecutive week in which Horton has won the weekly award, and it is also the second time this year that Carr has garnered the school honor.

In his second meet of the season, Horton cleared 5.15 meters in the pole vault to win the men's pole vault competition at the Susquehanna University Challenge held last Saturday in Selinsgrove, Pa.

Horton not only set a new personal season high in the event, but his height of 5.15 meters also broke his own IUP indoor track and field pole vault record. That height was also good enough to earned Horton an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark as well.

Teammate Dre Carr also enjoyed a successful afternoon at the meet, winning both the men's 60-meter dash and the 200 meter run. Carr's time of 6.82 seconds in the 60-meter dash earned him an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark in the event, while his time of 22.78 seconds in the 200 meters was good enough to earn him a PSAC qualifying mark.
