Senior pitcher
Lauren Zola and senior golfer
Matt Cocorikis were named IUP Athletes of the Week, announced by the sports information office Monday afternoon.
Zola's week was highlighted by her first career no-hitter in the Crimson Hawks' 10-0 win over Clarion on Senior Day. She struck out six in her six-inning complete game and was just one hit batter away from a perfect game.
She finished her week with a 3-0 record and 1.84 ERA in three starts with two complete games and 18 strikeouts in 19.0 innings pitched.
Cocorikis won his second career tournament and led the Crimson Hawks to a team championship at West Chester's Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational last week. Cocorikis shot a 2-under 69 in Sunday's opening round, tying the record for lowest round at in tournament history.
He became the first player in the history of the tournament to win medalist honors after posting that record score in the first round.
This is Zola's first IUP weekly honor of the season and the second of her career. Cocorikis has earned four IUP weekly honors this year and five for his career. This is his first during the 2019 spring season.
