Crimson Hawks Fall in Three to Juniata

HUNTINGDON, PA – Morgan Cerveny (Richfield, OH/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) and Carly Kowalski (Corry/Corry) each had six kills and Stacey Root (York/Spring Grove) had 18 digs, but IUP lost at Juniata in three sets on Friday night in Huntingdon.

Juniata won the first set, bookending it with a pair of runs to win 25-13. The Eagles then went up 7-2 in set number two before IUP rallied to cut its deficit to 9-7, with kills coming from Carissa Miara (Pittsburgh/West Allegheny), Danielle Ostendorf (Rockford, IL/Boylan Catholic), Beth Sova. After back-and-forth play, the Crimson Hawks reeled off five straight points to take a 16-13 lead.

After going up 18-15, Juniata went on a 6-0 run to take a 21-18 before IUP came back to tie it at 21-apiece. The Eagles then closed out the game on a 4-1 run to win 25-19.

Juniata went on a 4-0 run to open game three, as IUP countered with four straight points of its own to tie the score. The Eagles ended up taking a 14-11 lead before six straight points put them up 20-11. The Crimson Hawks made a late run, but Juniata closed out game three with a 25-19 win.

The Crimson Hawks remain on the road as they travel to Edinboro to take on the Fighting Scots on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
