Greg Stewart (Kittanning/Elderton) blanked Lock Haven through the first six innings and Mike Lupia (Middletown/Middletown), Frank Sirolli (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) and Brett Quiggle (Weedville/St. Marys) combined for eight of IUP's 15 hits in an 8-1 win over Lock Haven in the PSAC West opener for both teams Friday in Lock Haven.

The Bald Eagles bounced back for an 8-2 victory in the nightcap behind the pitching of Jordan Yohn, who allowed four hits and struck out nine in six innings. IUP is 9-9 on the season and Lock Haven is 10-7.

In the first game, Lupia and Quiggle both went 3-for-4 with Lupia scoring twice and Quiggle driving in three runs. Frank Sirolli (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) had two hits including a bases loaded triple in the second that capped a five-run Crimson Hawk inning.

Stewart allowed only three hits through six innings of shutout ball. He gave up a pair of singles and an RBI double by Ryan Watkins in the seventh before Ryan Sylvia (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) came in to get the final two outs. Stewart (2-0) struck out seven and walked two.

Lupia doubled and Dylan Songer (Baden/North Allegheny) and Jacob Shaffer (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area) had run-scoring singles in the second followed by the Sirolli triple that gave IUP a 5-0 lead. A double by Robbie Zinsmeister (Hatfield/North Penn) and sacrifice fly by Aaron Lupia (Middletown/Middletown) produced another run in the fifth, and Quiggle had a two-run single in the seventh.

Stewart worked around two leadoff walks in the second by getting a double play grounder and allowed a double in the third and a pair of two-out singles in the fourth but escaped without being scored on. He retired the side in order in the fifth and sixth before tiring in the seventh.

Sirolli added two more hits in the second game and had four on the day, raising his season average to .415, and Tyler Mroz (Pittsburgh/Chartiers Valley) drove in a run with a single in the sixth. But the Crimson Hawks were otherwise unable to get to Yohn.

The teams will play another division doubleheader Saturday at Owen Dougherty Field at 1 p.m., in IUP's home opener.
