The Crimson Hawks saw their bats come alive in a pair of wins Saturday scoring 23 runs in two games. IUP grabbed an 11-5 win over Glenville State and then a 12-4 victory in six innings against Wheeling Jesuit at the Salem Tournament.

In the opener Dee Eppinger (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) capped a seven-run first inning with a two-out grand slam, her first home run of the year. IUP sent 10 batters to the plate, belted five hits and took advantage of one Glenville error to jump out 7-0.

The Pioneers came back and got four runs of their own in the first inning but IUP starter Kelly King (Nazareth/Bethlehem Catholic) settled in and allowed just one unearned run over the next six innings of work to pick up the win. King struck out four and walked two in the contest.

Megan McCormick (Evans City/Seneca Valley) was 3 for 4 against Glenville with two RBIs and three runs scored. Kristen Tunno (Seaford, Va./Grafton) was 2 for 3 and added a pair of RBIs and a two runs scored.

Against Wheeling Jesuit the Crimson Hawks used a three-run third to break a 1-1 tie. Stephanie Poates led off the inning with a home run, her third of the season. IUP scored twice more when a slow roller by Raquel Rugani (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour ) was misplayed and Tunno and Michelle Bivona (Thorndale, Pa./Coatesville) came around to score.

Bivona did more damage in the fourth driving home two runs with a triple then scoring on a sacrifice fly to give IUP a 7-1 lead. She finished the game 3 for 4 with three runs scored and two RBIs.

In the sixth the Crimson Hawks scored five times including a Mary Ward (Hatfield/North Penn) grand slam to invoke the eight run rule and end the game.

Erin Holloway (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) benefited from the offensive explosion earning the win in the circle surrendering five runs, four of them earned, on nine hits while striking out five and walking none.

The Crimson Hawks finish up at the Salem Tournament on Sunday when they take on Fairmont State.
