The Crimson Hawks baseball team split a pair of games with a 20-16 win in the night cap against Waldorf and dropped a 19-4 decision to host Young Harris.

Against Waldorf IUP answered a nine-run second inning by the Vikings with a nine-run inning of their own in the bottom half of the inning keyed by a Robbie Zinsmeister (Hatfield/North Penn) three-run triple in his second plate appearance of the inning.

The Crimson Hawks tacked on three runs in the third and two in the fifth and seventh to hold off Waldorf.

Vern Powell (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) was 1-2 in the game with three walks and scored four runs. Aaron Lupia (Middletown/Middletown) 3-4 driving in four runs and scoring twice.

Devin Doutt (Lower Burrell/Burrell) picked up the win going three innings allowing just three runs on two hits striking out three and walking three. Stephen Cooke (Severn, MD/Archbishop Curley) pitched a pitched a scoreless ninth striking out two batters.

In the first game of the doubleheader frank Sirolli hit a three-run triple as part of a four-run second inning that tied the game before Young Harris scored six runs in the third and fourth innings to pull away.

The Crimson Hawks continue their spring trip with another game at Young Harris at 6:00 on Sunday.
