Greg Stewart Goes Six Innings for Win as Crimson Hawks Blank Waldorf

Dylan Songer drove in two runs in the first to get the IUP offense started

Greg Stewart (Kittanning/Elderton) and three relievers combined on a four-hitter as IUP blanked Waldorf 9-0 in the third of six games on Sunday at Young Harris, Ga.

Robbie Zinsmeister (Hatfield/North Penn) drove in four runs and Dylan Songer (Baden/North Allegheny) had two hits, scored two runs and knocked in a pair to lift the Crimson Hawks. IUP continues its southern trip with games against Young Harris and Waldorf on Monday.

Stewart went the first six innings, allowing only three hits while striking out eight. He fanned two in the first and third innings and pitched out of a sixth inning jam after walking the first two batters.

Tyler Squibbs (York/Donegal) struck out three in 1 2-3 innings, and Ryan Sylvia (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) and Stephen Cooke (Severn, MD/Archbishop Curley) completed the shutout with one strikeout each.

IUP scored twice in the first on two walks and a two-run single by Songer. Frank Sirolli (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) produced a run with a sacrifice fly in the second, and IUP scored two more in the fourth on a double by Jacob Shaffer (Vandergrift, Pa./Kiski Area), an RBI single by Zinsmeister and a Waldorf error.

The Crimson Hawks were issued three more walks in the seventh, and a sacrifice fly by Zinsmeister brought in two runs. Squibbs preserved the shutout in the bottom of the inning after issuing two walks by picking off a runner at second and striking out the next two hitters.
