Crimson Hawks Remain Undefeated at Rebel Games with Wins over University of the Sciences and Ashland

IUP remained undefeated in six games at the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Fla., after posting a 14-1 win over the University of the Sciences and a 7-0 shutout of Ashland.

The Crimson Hawks are 7-1 overall with six games remaining on their southern trip, including Wednesday contests against Minnesota State and Saginaw Valley State.

In the first game on Tuesday, IUP banged out 15 hits and got two RBIs each from Megan McCormick (Evans City/Seneca Valley) and Kristen Tunno (Seaford, Va./Grafton) in support of three-hit pitching from Kelly King (Nazareth/Bethlehem Catholic). Dee
Eppinger scored three runs and Monica Iachini (Claysburg/Claysburg-Kimmel) crossed the plate twice.

King did not allow an earned run in improving her record to 2-1. She struck out three and did not walk a batter.

The Crimson Hawks scored twice in the first on a single by Iachini and doubles by McCormick and Stefanie Poates. Tunno knocked in two with a third inning single, and Ashley Strack (Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) slammed a sixth inning leadoff home run.

IUP tacked on six runs in the seventh, including a three-run homer by Jen Beaver (Chester Springs/Owen J. Roberts), a solo shot by McCormick and RBI singles by Tara Waldo (Pittsburgh/Baldwin) and Taylor Rozantz (Fairview/Fairview).

McCormick, who was named the PSAC Central Player of the Week earlier in the day, moved into a tie for seventh in school history with her 14th career home run and is now tied for seventh with 87 RBIs.

Tunno and Mary Ward (Hatfield/North Penn) both drove in two runs to back the shutout pitching of Erin Holloway (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) in the win over Ashland. Holloway, the PSAC Central Pitcher of the Week, earned her 23rd career shutout with seven innings of two-hit ball, including six strikeouts.

After taking a 1-0 lead in the first, IUP scored five in the fifth, including two-run singles by Ward and Tunno. Michelle Bivona (Thorndale, Pa./Coatesville) doubled to lead off the sixth and scored on the back end of a double steal.
