Another Record-Setting Day for the Crimson Hawks on Saturday at the PSAC Championships

Saturday Morning Prelim Results | Saturday Night Finals Results

MECHANICSBURG, PA - Steve Long (Greensburg/Hempfield) set a new conference and conference meet record while Jackie Hynson (King George, VA/King George) and the women's 800 free relay team set new school marks as IUP continued to succeed on day three of the 2012 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Swimming Championships on Saturday at Cumberland Valley High School.

Long's performance came in the 100 fly where he's dominated all year, finishing with a time of 48.61, well ahead of the old championship meet mark of 49.76 and the former conference record of 49.14, along with the school record he broke earlier this year of 49.20.

Hynson followed up Long's morning performance in the afternoon by breaking her own school record in the 100 fly with a time of 55.83, besting her previous mark of 56.79, and taking first place in the event.

Hynson then swam the opening leg of the 800 free relay, teaming with Christina Janosky (Dover, Pa. /Dover ), Ally Long (Frederick, MD/Frederick) and Allyson Mitidieri (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) to pull through with a new IUP record of 7:38.72, a perfect two seconds better than the previous record. The time was good enough for third place in the event, while all three of the new records broken by IUP were NCAA "B" cut times.

Not to be outdone, Mitidieri took first place in the 400 IM, finishing with a season best time of 4:26.83.

The Crimson Hawks added several top eight finishes on the night, including Brandon Hopkins (Marion, VA/Marion) in the 400 IM (fifth); Anthony Termin (Enola/Cumberland Valley) in the 200 free (seventh); and Conrad Kubaney (Erie/Mercyhurst Prep) in the 100 back (seventh). The men's 800 free relay also added a fifth place finish.

Sunday is the final day of the PSAC Championships as both the men and women sit in fifth place overall with 257 and 225.5 points, respectively.
