HAMILTON, NY - The Crimson Hawks took five of six singles matches on Saturday as IUP cruised to a 6-1 victory over Division I Colgate in a non-conference women's tennis match at Sanford Field House in Hamilton, New York.
The victory moves IUP to 4-2 on the year, including 1-1 this spring.
The Crimson Hawks earned the doubles point, taking two of the three matches.
Tabtip Louhabanjong (Krabi, Thailand/West Anchorage (AK)) and
Katie Eaton (Halesowen, United Kingdom/Haybridge) got the 8-3 victory at number one over Kelsey Shea and Kelsey Wanhainen while the pair of
Erika Schnaas (Mexico City, Mexico/Escuela Nacional Preparatoria ) and
Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) got an 8-4 victory over Merideth Rock and Becky Silvers at number three to earn the point.
Colgate earned its lone point at the fourth singles spot as Wanhainen scored a three-set 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory over
Emilia Osborne (Leighton Buzzard, United Kingdom/Cedars ), but the Crimson Hawks swept the remaining matches to earn the win. Louhabanjong also went an exciting three sets with a 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 win at number one over Alex Petrini, while Eaton scored a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Shea at number two.
Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) also rallied for a three-set victory, going down 2-6 before winning 6-4, 6-3 at number three over Stephanie Brown.
Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park) earned a 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) win over Rock at number five while Schnaas defeated Olivia Rauh in an 8-6 pro-set win at sixth singles.
The Crimson Hawks wrap up their weekend New York trip when they play Niagara on Sunday.
