HICKORY, NC - Dylan Songer (Baden/North Allegheny) had two doubles, a homerun and five RBI to lead the Crimson Hawks to 17 hits in the opener as IUP posted a doubleheader split with Lenoir-Rhyne, winning 20-7 in game one before an 8-1 loss in game two on Wednesday afternoon in North Carolina.

Songer went 4-for-5 with those three extra base hits and crossed the plate three times in the win.

Ben Weimer (New Alexandria/Linsly School) got the start on the hill for IUP, claiming his first win of the year by allowing six hits in six innings of work.

The Crimson Hawks scored in five of the seven innings, knocking around six Lenoir-Rhyne pitchers en route to the 17 hits, including eight for extra bases, and 20 runs. IUP had five-run innings in the first and seventh, scored six runs in the fourth inning, three more in the sixth and had one in the second.

Troy Foster (Shamong, NJ/Seneca), Songer, Austin Mock (State College/State College), Ryan Uhl (St. Marys/St. Marys) and Dylan Tice (Perkasie/Pennridge) all had RBI's in the first inning, but Lenoir-Rhyne countered with five runs of its own for a 10-run first inning between the two teams.

After a leadoff double by Robbie Zinsmeister (Hatfield/North Penn) in the fourth, John Beatty (New Castle/Mohawk) homered to left, putting the first two runs on the board for the Crimson Hawks in the inning as they took an 8-5 lead. IUP went on to capitalize on Lenoir-Rhyne mistakes in the inning, including an error and a hit batter with the bases loaded, to score more four more runs to take a 12-5 lead.

Songer would get his homerun in the seventh after Beatty singled and Foster walked, putting up the first three of five runs in the inning. Tice would go on to drive a run in while Uhl scored on a wild pitch to finish off the scoring.

Eight Crimson Hawks posted at least one hit on the day, including Zinsmeister who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI, and three runs scored, reaching base via walk twice more.

Foster went 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI, while Uhl finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and Tice went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

The Crimson Hawks spread around nine hits in game two, getting an RBI single by Zinsmeister in the second inning as their only scoring in the loss.

Cory Sawka (Uniontown/Uniontown) and Foster each went 2-for-3, while Sawka and Tice each had a double.

The Crimson Hawks (7-8-1) are in action tomorrow with a single game against Pikeville before returning to Pennsylvania on Friday as they start their PSAC West schedule with a weekend series against rival Cal on Saturday and Sunday.
