INDIANA, PA - Robbie Zinsmeister (Hatfield/North Penn) had a two-run homer in game one to give IUP at 2-1 lead in the third, but Cal scored three in the sixth for a 4-2 win in the opener before scoring seven runs in the third inning of game two en route to a 7-1 win and a sweep of the Crimson Hawks on Sunday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division baseball doubleheader at Dougherty Field.

The Vulcans (12-10, 3-1) got on the board first in game one with an RBI single and held IUP hitless and scoreless until the third when Dylan Tice (Perkasie/Pennridge) led off the inning with a base knock to left. He'd move over to second after a Cory Sawka (Uniontown/Uniontown) sacrifice bunt, but it didn't matter what base he was standing on as Zinmeister nailed his homer to left center to put the Crimson Hawks on top.

The Crimson Hawks (8-11-1, 1-3) shut down Cal until the sixth when the Vulcans capitialized on two wild pitches, a passed ball and an error to score three runs and take a 4-2 lead.

IUP threatened in the bottom half, getting back-to-back singles by Dylan Songer (Baden/North Allegheny) and Aaron Lupia (Middletown/Middletown) to put two on with no outs until Cal pitchers Justin Taylor and Jim Kirker got out of the jam, getting three straight outs. The Crimson Hawks then put runners on the corners with two down in the seventh before Kirker picked up the third out and secured the win.

The Vulcans threatened early in game two, loading the bases in the first inning before IUP starter Evan Phillips (Harrisburg/Susquehanna Township) fanned the third out of the inning to get out of the jam.

After shutting down IUP in each of the first two innings, the Vulcans had their big third inning by scoring their seven runs on six hits, including a bases clearing triple.

Craig Hibell (New Bethlehem/Redbank Valley) would enter on the mound for IUP and shut down the Vulcans the rest of the way, allowing just one hit over the final 4.1 innings, striking out three.

However, the Crimson Hawks were only able to get one hit over that time, an RBI double by Austin Mock (State College/State College) in the fifth inning, scoring Lupia from first.

The Vulcans collected 23 hits on the day compared to just eight for the Crimson Hawks as they finished their first conference weekend with a 1-3 mark against Cal.

The Crimson Hawks are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to PSAC East foe Shippensburg for a crossover doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
