SHIPPENSBURG, PA - Dylan Songer (Baden/North Allegheny) had two doubles and drove in five runs, including a bases-clearning two-bagger in game two, as the Crimson Hawks rallied from a 3-1 game one loss to Shippensburg for a 13-11 win to earn a split with the Raiders in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) baseball crossover matchup on Tuesday afternoon at Fairchild Field.

After a two-run first inning for Shippensburg (14-11), the Crimson Hawks came back with three in the second to take the lead. It started with back-to-back singles by Mike Lupia (Middletown/Middletown) and David McNeill (Pittsburgh/Our Lady of Sacred Heart), putting a pair of runners on with no outs. After a flyout to left, Cory Sawka (Uniontown/Uniontown) singled up the middle to score Lupia and put runners at the corners. They then capitalized on a failed pickoff attempt by the pitcher as McNeill scored and Sawka advanced to second. He'd then steal third, setting up the final score of the inning when Robbie Zinsmeister (Hatfield/North Penn) flew out to left, getting Sawka home.

The Crimson Hawks broke open their lead in the third, starting with a double down the left field line by Songer. Back-to-back walks by John Beatty (New Castle/Mohawk) and Mike Lupia (Middletown/Middletown) loaded the bases before the Raiders rebounded to force two straight infield popups. IUP rallied with two outs, as Sawka walked, bringing home the first run of the inning before an RBI single by Zinsmeister brought home another. Then came an RBI single by Aaron Lupia, bringing two home before another walk loaded the bases for Songer who doubled again, clearing the bases to put IUP ahead 10-2.

Shippensburg came back with four runs on just a pair of hits in the bottom half before the Crimson Hawks put three more on the board in the fourth, getting another two runs off the bat of Songer with an RBI single, scoring Aaron Lupia (Middletown/Middletown) and Zinsmeister.

The Raiders continued to mount a comeback, scoring four more off four hits in their half of the fourth, including an RBI double and a pair of RBI singles. After one more Shippensburg run in the fifth made it 13-11 IUP, Jared Weed (Washington Crossing/Council Rock North) shut down Shippensburg's comeback attempt, striking out two and allowing one hit over the final two innings to earn the save and preserve the win.

Songer was one of seven Crimson Hawks to get a hit as they tallied 11 total, getting on base another eight times via walks and hit by pitches. Zinsmeister and Aaron Lupia (Middletown/Middletown) both had two hits, each with a double, and two RBI in the win.

IUP managed just one run off the bat of Troy Foster (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) in game one, getting it on and RBI flyout in the fifth inning as Matt Szukics (Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley) scored to make it 3-1. Starter Ben Weimer (New Alexandria/Linsly School) and reliever Weed combined to allow two earned in six innings in the loss while the Crimson Hawks scattered five hits.

The Crimson Hawks (9-12-1) return to the diamond this weekend with non-PSAC doubleheaders against West Liberty. IUP will host on Friday before traveling to West Virginia on Saturday. First pitch for both doubleheaders is set for 1:00 p.m.
