INDIANA, PA – Dylan Songer (Baden/North Allegheny) had a game-winning RBI single in the day's opening game, knocking in Robbie Zinsmeister (Hatfield/North Penn) as IUP defeated rival Slippery Rock 4-3 to lead off a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division baseball doubleheader on Friday afternoon.

The Rock would go on to win game two, beating the Crimson Hawks 18-4.

It was a scoreless game one until the fourth when Matt Accardi's two-run homer gave Slippery Rock a 2-0 lead. The Rock added to their lead in the top half of their fifth, putting a pair of runners on for Ben Bechtol, who doubled down the left field line to score one, making it a 3-0 game.

The Crimson Hawks got two back in the bottom half, capitalizing on the inaccuracy of Slippery Rock's starting pitcher to put a pair on via walks. Cory Sawka (Uniontown/Uniontown) then singled on a bunt to load the bases with no outs before an error by The Rock allowed Austin Mock (State College/State College) to score to make it a 3-1 game.

After a pop out, Songer flied out to right, scoring John Beatty (New Castle/Mohawk) from third but Slippery Rock got out of the inning by picking off Sawka at second.

IUP (20-22-1, 6-12) tied it up in the sixth, starting off with a double to left from Aaron Lupia (Middletown/Middletown). Two batters and two outs later, Mock singled to right to bring around Lupia to make it 3-3.

IUP starter Stephen Cooke (Severn, MD/Archbishop Curley) locked down Slippery Rock (21-20-1, 9-9) over the final two innings, not allowing any hits to keep the score tied.

Zinsmeister led off the seventh with a single up the middle before moving into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt off the bat of Dylan Tice (Perkasie/Pennridge). Songer then singed through the left side and Zinsmeister used his speed to easier score from second for the game-winning run.

Cooke had the complete game win for IUP, moving to 6-1 on the year with a 10-strikeout performance, giving up six hits and three walks with three earned runs.

Mock had two of the Crimson Hawks six hits while Songer knocked in a pair of runs.

IUP couldn't get much going in game two, as Slippery Rock racked up 18 hits compared to just five for the Crimson Hawks.

Ryan Uhl (St. Marys/St. Marys) knocked in two of the Crimson Hawks four runs while Zinsmeister and David McNeill (Pittsburgh/Our Lady of Sacred Heart) each had doubles.

Both teams are scheduled to be back in action on Saturday as they wrap up their season series with a doubleheader. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
